SAN JOSE, Calif. Stephen Strasburg Jersey . - A matchup with their fiercest rival was all it took for the San Jose Sharks to get their intensity back.Patrick Marleau and Joe Pavelski scored power-play goals to send the Sharks into the NHL All-Star break on a winning note with a 4-2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday night. We needed this game, Pavelski said. We know its going to be a competitive game when we play them and it needs to be that way. But it needs to be that way every night. Guys shored up and did that. Weve got to bottle it every night, weve got to compete. The Sharks had lacked that in recent games, losing back-to-back at home against Calgary and New Jersey. But they responded with a complete game against the Kings.Logan Couture scored twice and Antti Niemi made 15 of his 26 saves in the third period.Right off the start, the competition level was there, Pavelski said. When thats there and guys are engaged, all the small stuff seems to take care of itself.Dustin Brown and Jeff Carter scored for the Kings, who have lost seven of eight, although four came after regulation. Jonathan Quick made 21 saves. We have to do a better job in certain areas, defenceman Robyn Regehr said. We cant afford to give up two power-play goals and expect to win, especially on the road. We can all just do a better job. With the teams locked in a one-goal game in the third period, Pavelski gave the Sharks some needed insurance after Drew Doughty negated a Los Angeles power play by high-sticking Couture. The Sharks put pressure on Quick, who came out of his net to stop a shot by Marleau. Pavelski got to the rebound and knocked it in the open net for the 5,000th regular-season goal in San Jose history.Carter scored a power-play goal with 22.4 seconds to play but Couture got credit for an empty-net goal when he was hooked by Doughty in the closing seconds to seal it.The Sharks blew chances to build on a 1-0 lead when they failed to get shots off on a pair of 2-on-1 rushes, and Quick stopped Couture on a breakaway. That proved costly when the Kings got the equalizer midway through the second on a wraparound by Brown. But Marleau answered when he redirected Coutures shot past Quick to give San Jose a 2-1 lead. It was just the second goal in 20 games for Marleau and his first on the power play since Nov. 8.The Kings made their only trip of the regular season to the Shark Tank and first since completing the comeback from a 3-0 series deficit by winning Game 7 of the first round here last April. That sent Los Angeles on its way to a second Stanley Cup title in three seasons and San Jose to a summer of soul-searching. Both teams have been inconsistent so far this season and fighting for playoff position in the tough Western Conference.San Jose goes into the break in second place in the Pacific Division with 56 points. Los Angeles is in fifth with 52 and would be out of the playoffs if the season ended now. Were disappointed in where we are in the standings right now, centre Anze Kopitar said. We have to take the next few days to figure that out. Its time to play desperate coming out of the break. There was good energy from the start with fans starting the Beat L.A.! chants before the opening faceoff, and Los Angeles Kyle Clifford getting into an early scrap with Brenden Dillon.Shortly after that fight, Couture gave San Jose the lead when he skated past Alec Martinez and beat Quick with a shot to the short side for his 17th goal.We have to capture that and be prepared to bring it to the rink after the break every night because its shaping up to be a very tight conference, coach Todd McLellan said.NOTES: It was Metallica Night with members of the band on hand to drop the opening puck and take part in other events. ... Niemi got his second assist of the season and seventh in his career on Coutures goal. ... The teams will play once more in the Bay Area next month in an outdoor game at Levis Stadium. Jayson Werth Jersey .C. -- The Carolina Hurricanes used a strong third period to extend their winning streak to three games. Max Scherzer Jersey . - Tom Brady was upset that his New England Patriots hardly looked like a division champion in the first half. http://www.baseballnationalsauthority.com/Howie-Kendrick-Jersey/ . Louis second-period goal increased the New York Rangers lead but Dustin Brown has countered for the Los Angeles Kings who now trail the New York Rangers 2-1 in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final at Madison Square Garden.CHICAGO -- Theres just one game remaining in the regular season and the NBA playoffs begin on Saturday. The Chicago Bulls still dont know their first-round opponent, but thats fine with Joakim Noah. "Whatever happens, happens," Noah said after the Bulls 108-95 victory over the Orlando Magic on Monday. "Our mentality is just getting ready for the next game, getting ready for Charlotte. Were going to focus on out next opponent and everything will take care of itself." Noah had 18 points and 10 rebounds and eight assists, Mike Dunleavy scored 22 points and the Bulls pulled away late. With one game left in the regular season, the Bulls are fourth in the Eastern Conference playoff race and looking at a first-round matchup with Brooklyn. To catch Toronto and finish third, the Bulls would need to win the season finale at Charlotte on Wednesday and have the Raptors lose at New York. "The important thing is for us to continue to strive for improvement (and) finish the season as strong as we can and go from there," Thibodeau said. Kyle OQuinn led Orlando with 20 points on 9-for-11 shooting, and Andrew Nicholson added 19. Rookie Victor Oladipo was limited to 10 points after scoring a career-high 35 points against the Bulls earlier in the season. "Hes still getting better on a daily basis," Magic coach Jacque Vaughn said of OQuinn. "His challenge is going to be continuing to play every play. Hes done a good job of being in the right position the majority of the time. Now the expectation will be continued to be raised." Jimmer Fredette had 17 points for Chicago. With guard D.J. Augustin missing the game to attend the birth of a child, the Bulls rotation was a bit off in the first half. Fredette was the first player off the bench and he showed the rust of not playing much since being picked up at the beginning of March. The Bulls led throughout the first half, often by double figures, but the Magic hung around and pulled within 67-64 with just under three minutes left in the third quarter. Sean Doolittle Jersey. Dunleavy, though, hit a 3-pointer to stop Orlandos momentum. Soon after, Fredette capped the third-quarter scoring with a pair of free throws to make it 81-70 heading into the fourth. The Bulls quickly thwarted any hopes of a Magic comeback by opening the final quarter with a 13-7 to make it 94-77 with about seven minutes to go. Fredette had nine points on 4-for-6 shooting in the fourth. "I didnt know until I got here," Fredette said of his increased playing time. "I was able to step in and help the team get a win." With a win in the season finale, the Bulls would get to 49 victories, a feat few thought possible following the injury to Derrick Rose and trade of Luol Deng earlier in the season. "It feels great to be in this position right now, but were definitely not satisfied," Noah said. "We want more, we feel like we can do more. Its a group thats gone through so much adversity, to be in this position is definitely a blessing. But were not satisfied." NOTES: The Bulls completed their recent roster shake-up on Monday by signing C Greg Smith and waiving F Toko Shengelia. "Were excited that he is with us," coach Tom Thibodeau said of Smith. "When he was healthy, he played very well. We feel were fortunate to be able to pick him up." Smith had arthroscopic knee surgery in February and is still rehabbing. He averaged 5.3 points and 4.1 rebounds in 89 games for the Houston Rockets. Shengelia was acquired from the Brooklyn Nets earlier this season for Marquis Teague. Last week, the Bulls signed Ronnie Brewer, Mike James and Lou Amundson to bring their roster to the maximum 15. . Orlando G Jameer Nelson missed his second straight game with a strained left groin. ... The Magic finished the year with a 4-37 road record, including 11 straight losses to end the season. Fort Collins, CO (SportsNetwork. Jack Doyle Jersey .com) - Enjoying their longest winning streak since 1997, the 22nd-ranked Colorado State Rams settle in at Hughes Stadium on Saturday to host the slumping New Mexico Lobos in Mountain West Conference play. The Rams are off to their best start since 1994 when the team opened with a mark of 10-1 under head coach Sonny Lubick. The lone setback on the schedule was a 37-24 loss to Boise State on the road in the second game of the season, a defeat that could keep the Rams out of the conference championship game if the Broncos are able to win out at this point. Most recently the Rams were in action on Nov. 8 versus Hawaii at home, capturing a resounding 49-20 victory, advancing to 5-1 in conference play for the first time since 2002 when the program opened 6-1 on the way to the league title. As for the Lobos, they are at the other end of the spectrum in the Mountain Division of the MWC, winning just one of six league bouts to this point. The team has a total of three victories overall, the other coming against Texas- San Antonio in early October. Last weekend, New Mexico took a run at Utah State in Logan but came up short in a 28-21 final, the squads second loss in a row and the fourth in five outings. The series is controlled by the Rams currently, 36-25, thanks in part to an overwhelming 66-42 victory by Colorado State in Albuquerque last season. The Rams have won four straight in the series, including three in a row in Fort Collins. Freshman quarterback Lamar Jordan did everything in his power to get the Lobos into the win column against Utah State last week, but it simply was not meant to be. He converted 8-of-18 passes for 154 yards and a score, but was also intercepted once in the close call. The signal caller ran for 80 yards, second only to Romell Jordan who tallied 96 yards and a score on nine carries. Defensively, it was Tevin Newman with a team-best seven tackles, Nik DAvanzo with a pair of sacks and SaQwan Edwards an interception that he returned 33 yards and six plays later, the UNM offense turned it into its first touchdown of the contest. We gave up too many big plays, said Lobo Coach Bob Davie. To come up here and win this game, we needed to play great defense and we couldnt do that. We are good enough to keep it close, but we arent good enough to win a game like this yet. The defense has been a concern of the Lobos all season long, with the team giving up 498.9 ypg, ranking 116th in the country in that department. The run defense has been the biggest issue as the group allows 276.7 ypg which is 122nd in the nation currently. The bad news for the Lobos now is that linebacker Dakota Cox, one of the nations top tacklers with 116 stops, is listed as questionable for this week due to an ankle injury. Behind Cox, the second-best tackler is David Guthrie who has 64 stops, so clearly there is a huge drop off in that department. On the offensive side, the Lobos are fourth in the nation in rushing with 318.3 ypg, but are generating just 87.3 ypg through the air (124th). Thrust into action due to the foot injury of Cole Gautsche, Jordan has done rather well given the circumstances, throwing for 699 yards and five touchdowns on just 50 completions. On the ground, it is Jhurell Pressley who leads the way with 873 yards and 11 TDs, but he is just one of several options that the Lobos are leaning on these days. As for the Rams, who have been out of action for a few weeks, they are finally taking the field as a nationally-ranked squad for the first time since 2003. As Ive said all along, its pretty cool that people are taking note of the good things happening at Colorado State University, head coach Jim McElwain says of the national recognition. This is just another step in the climb, and I just cant tell you how proud I am of this team. We have a long way to go, but Im happy for our fans, for this university and the people in the state of Colorado. Coach McElwain has the luxury of watching two players who may well be the best at their position in the Mountain West right now in quarterback Garrett Grayson and receiver Rashard Higgins. Grayson is the first quarterback in program history to have three games with at least four touchdown passes in his career, all of them coming this season against UC Davis, Wyoming and Hawaii. Put it all together and the gunslinger is streaking along with 3,024 yards and 26 TDs on 65.6 percent accuracy. As for Higgins, he too is in a class by himself and was recently named a semifinalist for the Biletnikoff Award, which recognizes the top receiver in the nation. It was very exciting to hear this news this morning, said Higgins of the announcement. It shows how much hard work really does pay off, and makes me think how blessed I am to have great teammates and coaches. I set high goals for myself and our team, and those goals can only be achieved with everyone doing their part. To be in this position is a dream come true. Higgins entered the week leading all receivers in the FBS with 142.2 ypg and 13 touchdowns, while placing second in receiving yards with 1,280. He has a school-record seven games with at least 100 yards receiving and his 14 catches of 30 yards or more also paces the nations receivers. In addition to Grayson and Higgins, the CSU offense is also supported by the exploits of Alabama transfer, running back Dee Hart who has 909 yards and 11 TDs on the ground. The Colorado State defense takes its cues from Aaron Davis who leads the group with 95 tackles, 18 more than his closest teammate, while Cory James steps in with 5.5 sacks and 7.5 tackles for loss to pace the program in both of those department. Vontae Davis Jersey . Jamies number grades given are out of five, with five being the best mark. Jonathan Quick, Los Angeles Kings (3) - Early goal against was on the power play. Erik Swoope Jersey . Still, its a start. Josh Baileys goal with 1:40 left capped a furious third-period rally, and the Islanders edged the Penguins 4-3 on Friday night. http://www.nflcoltsgearsshop.com/Anthony-Castonzo.html?cat=894 .Y. - Major League Soccers independent review panel has taken back the fine and one-game suspension it placed on Toronto FC forward Luke Moore earlier this week.LONDON -- As first-round losses go, this one was easier to take for Vasek Pospisil. Playing at Wimbledon on his 24th birthday, the Vancouver player saved three match points before falling to Robin Haase 7-6 (8-6), 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 on Monday. Despite his loss, Pospisil was more than satisfied that the back pains which had made his life hell for the past six months have been fixed thanks to a diagnosis by a Prague doctor after months of uncertainty. Pain-free over the last two weeks, Pospisil said he now knows exactly what was bothering him and that the problem has become "completely manageable." Pospisil came to the All England Club after reaching the quarter-finals on grass last week in the Netherlands in his best career performance on the surface. "This was the first match of the year which felt normal," said the player who began to be bothered by his back in Chennai in early January. "Last week was the first week of the season in which I recognized myself on court in terms of competing. "I played quite well last week and today I just had a couple of mistakes and it didnt work out. "But this was definitely a normal match. Now I can focus on what I need to work on. Not playing much probably cost me today. My main goal noww is to stay healthy and finally be able to work on improving my game. Tarell Basham Jersey. " On the womens side, Aleksandra Wozniak of Blainville, Que., was also eliminated, losing 6-1, 6-2 to Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia. The No. 31 seed was beaten in a battle lasting one hour 38 minutes to leave his Wimbledon main draw record at a 2013 win and two defeats. Pospisil hammered over 21 aces against Haase and produced 58 winners to 44 for his opponent, but he converted on only one of five break points. The Canadian dropped the opening set in a tiebreaker and levelled by winning the second before Haase took the lead two sets to one as he broke in the final game of the third. Haase earned another break for a 3-1 lead in the fourth set but was unable to close it out immediately as Pospisil salvaged three match points in the ninth game. But a cross-court forehand winner gave Haase one more winning chance, which he took when Pospisils volley went low into the net. Pospisil and Haase and split two meetings last season with a win apiece. Pospisil was one of three Canadian men in the singles draw, where eighth seed Milos Ranoic of Thornhill, Ont., heads the effort. Frank Dancevic of Niagara Falls, Ont., earned a lucky loser spot in the 128-man draw. ROME -- Serena Williams kept the crowd from being a factor in a 6-3, 6-0 victory over 10th-seeded home favourite Sara Errani to win the Italian Open for the third time Sunday. De Aaron Fox Jersey . Errani was bidding to become the first Italian to win the tournament in nearly 30 years but the top-ranked Williams quickly took control in both sets and Errani appeared slowed by a left thigh problem. Errani left the court for an injury timeout while trailing 5-3 in the opening set and came back with her thigh bandaged. On the final point before she left the court, Errani pulled up and let a shot from Williams pass by her without even attempting to get to it. "Im sorry. You were unbelievable all week," Errani told fans during the victory ceremony, as she brushed back tears. "I tried to do my best and stayed on the court only for you." Williams other Rome titles came in 2002 and last year -- and she went on to win the French Open on both occasions. "Im also sorry for Sara today," Williams told the crowd in Italian. "She really played great all week." Later, seven-time champion Rafael Nadal was facing Novak Djokovic in a No. 1 vs. No. 2 meeting in the mens final of the last key clay-court tuneup for Roland Garros, which starts next weekend. A left thigh problem prompted Williams to withdraw before her quarterfinal match at the Madrid Open last week but now she appears back on track for the French. "Im not 100 per cent but Im just kind of going on adrenaline," Williams said. Organizers attempted to whip up patriotic fervour by having the Italian anthem sung before the players walked out onto the court, and fans continuously chanted "Sara, Sara" to try and encourage Errani in an atmosphere that more resembled a Davis Cup or Fed Cup setting. But Williams jumped out to a 3-0 lead and while Errani had a few chances to get back into the first set, Williams overpowered the Italian with her serve -- she had seven aces to Erranis none -- and overall attacking game. Still, Errani could console herself by becoming the first Italian runner-up in the tournament since Raffaella Reggi took the 1985 title in Taranto. The last Italian man to win was Adriano Panatta back in 1976. When former Italian player Lea Pericoli asked Errani during the trophy presentation if she was "disappointed" with her showing, the crowd responded with boos and whistles. Pericoli then acknowledged that Erranis appearance in the final was an accomplishment by itself. Injury permitting, Errani was slated to play the doubles final later with partner Roberta Vinci against Kveta Peschke and Katarina Srebotnik. It was the 60th title of Williams career, and a large portion of those trophies have come in recent years for the 32-year-old American. Martina Navratilova holds the record with 167 titles and Williams needs seven more to match Billie Jean King for sixth place on the all-time list. "Im like a fine wine, I guess -- at least my tennis is," Williams said. "My game gets better with age." George Hill Jersey . The eighth-year point guard played in his 500th career game on Sunday, a 98-93 win over the Orlando Magic. Does he feel like hes played in that many games? "No," he said initially, before reconsidering. Chris Webber Jersey . In the Brewers six games this season, no starter has allowed more than three runs. "We see the guy in front of us do a great job and we want to do even better," Gallardo said after the Brewers beat the Red Sox 4-0 on Sunday, his second straight scoreless start. http://www.nbakingsonline.com/Authentic-Jason-Williams-Kings-Jersey/ .ca. Kerry, I hope you address Ron MacLeans comment during the second intermission of Game 4 in Montreal-Tampa series. Basically, he suggested that the NHL should not have used a referee from Quebec, following the Game 3 disputed non-goal, because the referee could be biased towards Montreal.Paul Scholes says Manchester United fans want to see more entertaining football under Louis van Gaal. United could yet enjoy a successful end to the season by qualifying for the Champions League and winning the FA Cup, but some feel Van Gaals tenure at Old Trafford has been defined by the prosaic nature of the football in comparison to that played under Sir Alex Ferguson. They have scored just 44 goals in 36 league games this season, the same as Bournemouth and 26 fewer than top scorers Manchester City, who occupy the final Champions League spot in fourth. Juan Matas winner against Norwich has given United hope of a top-four finish United can leapfrog their rivals with a win at West Ham on Tuesday night, but former midfielder Scholes says fans will demand more entertainment next season, whoever is in charge.I think theres a lot of talent in the squad, its probably just the way theyve been playing that hasnt been entertaining enough, he told Sky Sports News HQ. There are players in the squad who have been at other clubs and have played different ways and can entertain. Theres a lot of talent, there are lads who have been there a year now like Memphiss and Schneiderlin and hopefully well be better next year. Vince Carter Jersey. I dont think theres major surgery needed, I think we need a striker and a centre-half and maybe a little bit of creativity in midfield and if we can find that and maybe a different style of playing football, I think United fans will be happy. Scholes says there is plenty of talent in the Manchester United squad I think theyd be happy with this season to be honest, if it was just a little bit more entertaining. Okay you dont want to be finishing fourth, you want to be fighting for the league, but thats just where were at at the minute, fighting for Champions League, for fourth spot and in with a chance of winning the FA Cup. Hopefully next year will be different.Scholes was speaking at an event to promote the TeamEllis football festival, an initiative to raise funds for Ellis Robinson, 17, who suffered a spinal injury while playing football earlier this year. The Mercedes driver was investigated by police in New Zealand after he allegedly filmed himself riding a Harley Davidson on a motorway and posted it on Snapchat. The two clips were apparently recorded while Hamilton stopped off in Auckland on his way to Melbourne for the season-opening Australian GP. But Hamilton, who has over three million followers on Twitter, is adamant that he will not ease up on his social media activities. That is my channel to the people that do follow me, he told Sky Sports News HQ on Thursday.Theres people out here that have come from a long, long way away and that interaction I have with them - I personally enjoy it. Some of them may, and some of them may not, but I love doing it and so Im going to keep doing it.The first race of the 2016 F1 season, the Australian GP, is exclusively live on Sky Sports F1. The race in Melbourne starts at 5am on Sunday March 20. Jameer Nelson Jersey . The 49ers announced the deal Tuesday. San Francisco selected Lloyd in the fourth round of the 2003 draft. Trey Lyles Jersey . -- The Denver Broncos retired John Elways No. http://www.authenticnuggetsproshop.com/Kenneth-Faried-Jersey/ .com) - New England Patriots starting center Bryan Stork will not play in Sundays AFC Championship against Indianapolis due to a knee injury the rookie sustained last week.ENGLEWOOD, Colo. - John Elway broke the mould. The Denver Broncos general manager bucked this years trend when he hired his former backup QB and offensive co-ordinator Gary Kubiak as his head coach.Every other head coach vacancy thats been filled has gone to men with defensive roots: John Fox in Chicago, Jack Del Rio in Oakland, Jim Tomsula in San Francisco, Rex Ryan in Buffalo and Todd Bowles with the Jets.Oddly, every one of those teams also had trouble on offence in 2014.So did the Falcons, the only head coaching vacancy that hasnt been filled. It appears that offensive co-ordinators Josh McDaniels of New England and Adam Gase, Peyton Mannings co-architect in Denver, will have to keep waiting as defensive co-ordinators Dan Quinn of Seattle and Detroits Teryl Austin are the only candidates to get follow-up interviews with the Falcons. If Quinn is the choice, the Falcons will have to wait to offer him the job until after Seattle plays New England in the Super Bowl on Feb. 1.Quinns star rose with the Seahawks 43-8 walloping of Elways Broncos in last years Super Bowl, something NFL Network analyst Terrell Davis believes has driven this defensive shift, along with the aerial fireworks show the league has become. One, you look at who won the Super Bowl last year. Theyve got a formula people want, Davis said. Theyve got a good quarterback and their offence was good; it just wasnt as good as their defence. If you have a good defence, you can mask a lot of deficiencies on offence. And two, it really is about offences in this league and if you can stop them. Then again, Davis said, it could just be coincidence.Maybe it just happens to be the best candidates are defensive coaches, Davis said.Theres no ambiguity about it, insisted former NFL executive and current ESPN analyst Bill Polian. Each hire, each situation is different. Thats one part of the puzzle, Polian said. The second part is the pool of candidates is what it is. In any given year, you might have more people who come from the offensive side of the ball as opposed to the defensive. And third, anybody thats asked for my advice, I have said, Hire the best person regardless of orientation.Because what youre hiring is a head coach. Hes going to hire a defensive co-ordinator. Hes going to hire an offensive co-ordinator. Theyre the ones that are going to determine largely the scheme. So, hire the best person whose philosophy of football fits how yyou want to operate. Gary Harris Jersey. The only other factor that should come into the equation is previous head coaching experience, Polian said. That certainly burnished the resumes of Fox, Del Rio and Ryan. Fox was 49-22 in four seasons in Denver even though the Broncos came up short in the playoffs each year.Guys who have been a successful head coach before, theres probably something to be said for that, Polian said.New Bills owner Terry Pegula said experience was the tilting factor in Ryans hiring. In San Francisco, it came down to Tomsula or Gase, but the deciding factor wasnt their backgrounds, CEO Jed York said.Youre not the head coach of the defence. Youre not the head coach of the offence, York said. Youre the head coach of the entire team.Interestingly, teams led by head coaches with offensive roots had an average rank of 16.1 in points per game this season to 16.0 for defensive coaches (excluding the Raiders, who switched mid-season from defensive to offensive). The season started with 16 offensive and 16 defensive coaches. So, there was essentially no difference in performance on average based on the expertise of the head coach.Yeah, if you want to use that metric, Polian said. When you use the word expertise of the coach, would you presume that Bill Belichick knows only defence? OK, so thats my point. If you hire a good coach, he understands both sides of the ball, how it fits, how he wants to do it, how it fits his personnel, etc. etc. Were hiring head coaches here, not co-ordinators.Raiders owner Mark Davis was initially looking for an offensive-minded coach to help quarterback Derek Carr develop, something he told Del Rio in their first conversation. And Jack said, Whoa, whoa, whoa, stop! I know about offence as well, Davis said.Labels dont matter when youre a head coach, Del Rio said, because if youre a defensive guy, quickly you become an offensive guy as well.He pointed to the two coaches who are in the Super Bowl.Bill Belichick was a defensive guy and hes doing a pretty good job with his offence, Del Rio said. Pete Carroll is a defensive guy in his background, but hes doing a pretty good job up there in Seattle with their offence and with their team. So, I think when you hire a head coach, you get that — you get a head coach.___AP Sports Writers Josh Dubow, John Wawrow and Janie McCauley contributed.___AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFL Cheap NFL Jerseys Wholesale Jerseys Wholesale NFL Jerseys Jerseys From China Wholesale NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys ' ' '

NEW YORK -- Tone Time is over for the New York Jets. Scottie Pippen Jersey . The Jets parted ways with wide receiver Santonio Holmes on Monday, cutting the talented but injury-plagued playmaker after four seasons. The move, which had been expected, saves the Jets $8.25 million, which Holmes was due to make as his base salary this season. He was also scheduled to have a $10.75 million cap number, a lofty total for a one-time Super Bowl MVP who has struggled with injuries and inconsistency the last two seasons. The Jets also released cornerback Antonio Cromartie on Sunday, clearing $17.75 million of salary cap space before the NFLs free agency period starts Tuesday. New York could also save another $8.3 million if they cut quarterback Mark Sanchez, who missed last season with a shoulder injury. Holmes, who turned 30 last Monday, had 23 catches -- the second-lowest total of his career -- for 456 yards and a touchdown in 11 games last season. He missed five games midway through the season with a hamstring injury. Holmes played in just four games in 2012 and was sidelined for several months after suffering a career-threatening foot injury. In December, Holmes said he would be willing to restructure his contract to remain a member of the Jets, adding that how much of a pay cut hed be asked to take probably wouldnt play into his decision to want to stay. "I appreciate Tones contributions over the last four seasons," coach Rex Ryan said in a statement. "Ive always admired his knack for making the clutch play. Hes a tremendous competitor who wants the ball in his hands when the game is on the line. I wish him nothing but the best." Holmes signed a five-year, $45 million deal before the 2011 season after a solid first year with the Jets, who acquired him from Pittsburgh for a fifth-round draft pick. He agreed to restructure his contract in March 2012, when he took a $3.5 million cut to his scheduled base salary of $11 million for last season. Holmes was a controversial figure at times during his tenure with the Jets, butting heads with Sanchez and the teams offensive linemen during the 2011 season. In the season finale at Miami, he got into an argument with offensive tackle Wayne Hunter in the huddle and was benched for the rest of the game. The mercurial wide receiver also had a contentious relationship with the media, keeping his answers short during most group interviews. He inadvertently made headlines last season when he called Carolinas secondary the Panthers defences "weakest link" while trying to credit the unit -- but providing bulletin board for an opponent that went out and beat the Jets 30-20. Holmes was a first-round draft pick by the Steelers out of Ohio State in 2006 and was selected the Super Bowl MVP in his third season after he caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from Ben Roethlisberger with 35 seconds left to lead Pittsburgh past Arizona. He had his best statistical performance the following season with 79 catches for 1,248 yards and five touchdowns. But Holmes was traded to the Jets the following off-season after the Steelers tired of his numerous legal troubles. Holmes was suspended for his first four games with the Jets for violating the NFLs substance abuse policy, but quickly became one of the teams primary playmakers when he returned. He played a key role in three straight wins with big catches late in games, prompting Ryan to label those types of clutch moments as "Tone Time." He also helped lead the Jets to their second straight AFC title game appearance, in which they lost to Holmes former team. Holmes has 381 career catches for 5,963 yards and 36 touchdowns in eight NFL seasons. NOTES: The Jets offered a one-year tender to restricted free agent LB Nick Bellore, who is one of the teams core special teams players. MARSEILLE, France -- Mark Cavendish will never be the greatest Tour de France rider, because he will never win the race five times like Eddy Merkcx of Belgium and Frenchman Bernard Hinault. Hassan Whiteside Jersey . Still, the sprinter with thighs like thick hams could outdo both of those legends -- by winning more stages than them at cyclings premier race. By Cavendishs warp-speed standards, his 24th stage win on Wednesday was like taking candy from a baby. The teammates who led Cavendish to the finish, sucking him along in their wheels, building up his speed, were toiling like clockwork. Stamping on his pedals, head down, thighs pumping like pistons, Cavendish then whooshed off alone for the last 150 metres (yards), leaving everyone else in his wake. Cavendish was carrying so much momentum and this win in Marseille, Frances second-largest city, was so comfortable that he was able to sit up in the saddle and make a hand motion like cracking a whip as he crossed the line. One more stage win will tie Cavendish with Andre Leducq, the Frenchman who got 25 stage wins in the 1920s and 1930s, putting him third on the all-time list. Beyond Leducq is Hinault, who notched up 28 wins in the 1970s and 80s. Merckxs monument is 34, won from 1969 to 1975. Jacques Anquetil and Miguel Indurain also won five Tours, but didnt win as many stages as Hinault and Merckx. Anquetil won 16; Indurain got 12. All seven of Lance Armstrong Tour wins were stripped from him for doping. This 100th Tour is the first since Armstrongs fall last year. Victorias Ryder Hesjedal was the top Canadian in the fifth stage, finishing 103rd. Hesjedal, who confirmed Wednesday that hes racing with a broken rib, is 14th in the overall classification, 17 seconds behind Gerrans. Quebec Citys David Veilleux is 143rd, 25 minutes and 28 seconds off the pace, while Svein Tuft of Langley, B.C., is 169th, 33:23 off the pace. Cavendish makes out that he isnt fixated on Hinault or Merckxs numbers. He notes that for many riders, winning just one stage at the 110-year-old Tour -- let alone the 11 he needs to overhaul Merckx -- is a career-defining feat. "You have to show the Tour de France the respect it deserves," he said. But then Cavendish isnt any other rider. Before this edition, he collected on average nearly five wins at every Tour since 2008. In 2009, he got six. He won the last four sprint finishes on the Champs-Elysees in Paris, where he is unbeaten since 2009. While Merckxs record is still a way off, Hinault and most certainly Leducq look within Cavendishs grasp. "Obviously I aim to win multiple stages each year. But to set any goals, any number ... it does one of two things: It sets you up to fail for something or it puts like a mark on what you want to achieve and it can kind of stop you trying to move forward," he said. Were Cavendish to overtake Hinault, it wouldnt mean he is a better overall rider than the famously bad-tempered "Badger," who was strong on every terrain. But in a sprint, Cavendish has no equal, at least in this generation. Although Cavendish downplays the chase for stage-win milestones, he is certainly very aware of them. The Tour director, Christian Prudhomme, says that more than a year ago, at the Tour of Oman, he quietly tested Cavendishs knowledge of Tour de France history and was delighted when he rattled off the names of Andre Darrigade, who won 22 stages in the 1950s and 60s, as well as Leducq, Hinault, Merckx and their respective totals. "He is aware of what does it take ... to become No. 1 on the list of most winning riders ever," confirmed Rolf Aldag, one of the managers of Cavendishs Omega Pharma-Quick Step team. "He has a chance to make history," he said. "Its a goal, its a target." Cavendish would be the first to note that, unlike Merckx, he doesnt win alone. His teammates worked tirelessly to manoeuvre him into place in Marseille. They helped reel in breakaway riders who scooted off ahead and then delivered him like express mail to within sight of the line. Omegas Italian rider, Matteo Trentin, surged to the front and pedalled as hard as he could up to and around the final left-hand bend, pulling Gert Steegmans and Cavendish behind him. Exhausted, Trentin then made way for Steegmans, who led Cavendish at top speed to the signboard marking 150 metres to go. From there, the man known as the "Manx Missile," because he comes from the Isle of Man, did the rest. "Perfect, man, perfect," Trentin said. "The basic plan never changes," Aldag said. "The basic plan is always we believe hes the fastest sprinter and we do everything that needs to be done to try to make him win." "I didnt do anything," Cavendish said. "Gert went with such speed that I could accelerate off his wheel and just carried on the speed he delivered me at." Stage 6 on Thursday -- 176.5 kilometres (110 miles) from Aix-en-Provence to Montpellier -- should also suit Cavendish, because it is flat. With his short, muscular frame, he doesnt like steep climbs. Simon Gerrans of Australia will again wear the yellow jersey, after keeping the race lead on Wednesdays bumpy 228.5-kilometre (142-mile) trek from the beach resort of Cagnes-sur-Mer. Chris Bosh Jersey .com) - Thursday marks the official debut of a new dirt racing surface at Meydan Racecourse. Goran Dragic Jersey . Wheeler said Kane was just making a joke that was misunderstood and misinterpreted by "Winnipeg folks" and the media once again. Wheeler repeated that he believes Kane is a player who has the ability to help the Jets get to the next level as they try once again to reach the playoffs in 2014. He made the comments initially in an interview, when asked how the Jets could compete in the Central Division with teams that have made some high-profile off-season signings. http://www.basketballheatshop.com/Cheap-James-Johnson-Heat-Jersey/ . Radulov scored the lone goal in the shootout, and the Predators edged the Minnesota Wild 2-1 on Tuesday night to reach 100 points for the second time in three seasons and fourth in seven.Sporting the best record in the NBA’s Eastern Conference, the Toronto Raptors have charged to the top of the standings on the strength of truly inspired team basketball. In the hours before arguably their toughest test yet against LeBron James and the new-look Cleveland Cavaliers at the ACC on Friday night, the organization took time to pay tribute to Nelson Mandela, the personal inspiration of the man at the helm, Raptors General Manager Masai Ujiri. Marking the first anniversary of Mandela’s passing, The Giant of Africa presented by Bell was a pre-game celebration of the late former South African President and Nobel Peace Prize winner. Funds raised by the event will support both the Nelson Mandela Foundation and Giants of Africa, a not-for-profit organization founded by Ujiri in 2003 to continue to educate and enrich the lives of African youth. As he stepped to the front of the packed house gathered in the teams transformed upper level practice court (which had been rapidly transformed into a red carpet event space for the occasion), the first African-born General Manager in NBA history promised to refrain from firing up the crowd in advance of the impending game, recounting instead the way that meeting Mandela changed his life. Ujiri went on to share his personal reflections on Mandelas legacy, saying, I dont know where the world is going, but Mandela made the world a better place. And even though hes passed, he is going to continue to grow. Through whether it was poverty, diseases, or injustice, Nelson Mandela is a man that stood for us, and the world needs that. The world deserves that. Courtesy: Giants of Africa Twitter The GMs address was a prelude to a panel discussion moderated by TSN’s James Duthie featuring the evenings celebrity guests: a trio of NBA legends in Magic Johnson, Charles Barkley, and Dikembe Mutombo, along with UN Goodwill Ambassador and 1999 Miss Universe winner Mpule Kwelagobe. Much of the panel discussion revolved around the guests personall memories of meeting Mandela, as well as his lifelong determination to create hope and encourage global harmony. Gerald Green Jersey. Courtesy: Giants of Africa Twitter For me it was a dream come true to meet someone who lifted the world up, taught us so much, inspired me to do what I do every day: look after my people on the continent of Africa. I learned all those lessons from this great man, said Mutombo. It was a group of 14 of us, we had many NBA officials there, and the person he called the name of was Mutombo!!! The NBA legends also touched on the Raptors remarkable run so far this season. After Barkley complimented Toronto, calling the city a clean New York, Johnson commended the team for being a reflection of the tenacity of their GM, and built the case for the Raptors to find success going forward. Theyre a real team, and all they have to do now is build on what happened last season in the playoffs. You always have to gauge yourself on the best, you use that as a barometer to [measure], Okay, where are we against Cleveland, Chicago, Washington? And, Johnson added to the roar of the crowd, the fan base is crazy. That arena last year in the playoffs was one of the loudest arenas Ive ever seen. Other notable guests at the event included Raptors alumnus Tracy McGrady, Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Jonathan Bernier, Maple Leafs President Brendan Shanahan, TIFF Artistic Director Cameron Bailey, Toronto Argos legend Michael “Pinball” Clemons, NBA Deputy Commissioner Mark Tatum, and Amadou Fall, Vice President of NBA Africa. Courtesy: Toronto Raptors Twitter In conjunction with the evening’s theme, limited edition The Giant of Africa t-shirts were sold by the Toronto Raptors Store powered by Real Sports Apparel, with proceeds supporting Giants of Africa. The shirts display messages inspired by Mandela’s five pillars: being a leader, fighting for freedom, creating a better future, committing to the community, and using sport to inspire change. CONCORD, N. Tedric Thompson Jersey .C. -- About the only one not worried about Jimmie Johnsons victory drought this season was the Sprint Cup defending champion. After his dominating show this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Johnson gave his competitors plenty to worry about. Johnson reached Victory Lane for the first time this season at the Coca-Cola 600, finishing off a dominating week at a track many have called "Jimmies House." "Its great to win, but believe me, and I promise you, all the hype and all the concern and worry, that was elsewhere. That wasnt in my head," Johnson said. Now, Johnson can think about his record-breaking seventh Cup win at Charlotte, about his 13th straight NASCAR season with a victory or about his fourth 600 victory to trail only Darrell Waltrips five in the series longest race. And maybe throw a scare into opponents that Johnsons run at top isnt over yet. "They know we are awake," Johnson said. "Hopefully, the 48 is heading that way and we can give other people something to think about." This time, Johnson swept past Matt Kenseth nine laps from the end and was never pressured after that. Johnson earned the pole Thursday night, was strong at practice Saturday and led 165 of 400 laps Sunday. Kevin Harvick, who led 100 laps, was second. Kenseth finished third with Carl Edwards fourth. Jamie McMurray, the All-Star race winner last weekend at the track, was fifth. Kurt Buschs attempt at motorsports history ended with 129 laps to go when he blew an engine. Busch finished sixth in the Indianapolis 500, but could not complete the 600 and become just the second racer ever -- Tony Stewart was the first -- to navigate all 1,100 miles on auto racings biggest weekend. Harvick had won two of the past three 600s and led 100 laps this time. He fell back in the latter stages as he dealt with car problems and could not get back to the front. "We needed a 700-mile race to get back to where we needed to be," Harvick said. Brad Keselowski held the lead and appeared to have out-pitted Johnsons No. 48 group with a final stop 55 laps from the end. But a vibration in the Penske machine sent Keselowski back to the pits and a lap down. Much of the pre-race attention was centred on whether Busch or points leader Jeff Gordon would make to the starting line. Busch because of his 850-mile trek South from Indiana and Gordon because of back spasms that cropped up Thursday after qualifying and were still severe enough Saturday for him to leave the track early after just a few laps of practice. But both were there when the green flag dropped, although Buschs arrival was far more dramatic with the helicopter circling the track and landing on the infield close to the start-finish line about an hour before the race began. He received loud cheers and plenty of high-fives from fans and took a seat on the bench where driver introductions were made. As colleagues and competitors made their way up the steps, most made sure to chat up Busch or shake his hand on a job well done. Busch had a bit of luck to stay on the lead lap, twice earning a lucky dog bid after going a lap down to return among the leaders. He eventually reached the top 10 and was running 16th when smoke started pouring out of his Stewart-Haas Chevrolet and sent him behind the wall and to a 40th-place finish. "Kind of a shame, kind of symbolizes how its been for the Haas Automation team," Busch said. "We gave it our all with the way we were clawing our way up there." The 42-year-old Gordon, a four-time series champion, has dealt with back problems before and his No. 24 team had driver Regan Smith on standby if Gordon couldnt go. But if Gordons back bothered him during the race, he didnt show it with his performance. He spent much of the night in the top 10 and was out front until Kenseth passed him on a restart 16 laps from the end. Gordon finished seventh, his ninth top-10 finish in 12 events this year. "It was tough. I was aching in there. There was one time when I got on the brakes into (Turn) 1 and it triggered something. I didnt know what was going to happen after that, but it settled down," Gordon said. Gordon maintained his points lead by 11 over second-place Kenseth. Danica Patrick had hopes of a strong showing after qualifying fourth, her best starting spot of the season. But like Busch, she too, was out early with a blown engine 119 laps from the end. She was 39th, her poorest finish in three 600s. Dale Earnhardt Jr. came into this one with seven top 10s in 11 races and the hope he could finally win a points race at his beloved home track. He led 13 laps late in the race before he had engine problems as well and faded from contention. He ended 19th. K.J. Manhattan, KS (SportsNetwork. Joe Looney Jersey .com) - Nino Williams posted 18 points and seven rebounds, as Kansas State edged No. 22 Baylor thanks to a second-half surge, 63-61, at Bramlage Coliseum. Marcus Foster added 11 points for the Wildcats (11-7, 4-1 Big 12), winners of four straight games thanks to shooting 50 percent (23-of-46) from the field. Kenny Chery poured in a game-high 21 points -- but his runner as time expired failed to fall -- and Taurean Price added 20 for the Bears (13-4, 2-3), who have dropped three of their last five. Chery kept his team close in the late stages. He capped a three-point play on a free throw with 5.4 seconds remaining and Baylor got within 62-61, but Thomas Gipson was fouled on the next possession and split a pair from the line to give the Bears one last chance with 4.8 showing. Chery got the ball and had a lane up the middle, but his attempt which would have sent the game into overtime did not go through. Baylor jumped out to an early 13-2 lead thanks to five points each from Chery and Johnathan Motley, and when Chery connected again from long distance, the lead stood at 22-8 with 9:50 left in the first half. K-State was down 24-10 a short time later but managed to pull within two after a Foster triple capped a run of 12 straight points. However, a three by Chery extended Baylors edge to 33-24 at the break. Rico Gathers converted a three-point play with 11:27 to go and the Bears had a 49-37 lead, but K-State began to chip away. The Wildcats assumed their first lead of the contest on two free throws by Justin Edwards with 6:24 on the clock, and Edwards added a jumper less than a minute later to raise the edge to three. Gordon Hayward scored 22 points, Alec Burks added 19 and the Jazz beat Philadelphia 104-92 on Saturday night, sending the reeling 76ers to their 16th consecutive loss. "Its a win, man," Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin said. "The young guys got a chance to finish a game that was close." Derrick Favours contributed 15 points and 14 rebounds, Enes Kanter had 13 points and 10 boards, and Diante Garrett scored 11 points for the Jazz (22-41), who snapped a five-game losing streak and completed a six-game road trip at 1-5. "We just came out ready to fight," Kanter said. "Thats real Jazz basketball. We have to play like that every game." Tony Wroten scored a career-high 30 points for the Sixers (15-47), who hadnt dropped 16 in a row since a franchise-worst 20 straight losses during the 1972-73 season, when they finished 9-73. The Sixers also lost their franchise-worst 13th straight home game. "Im going to give that group the benefit of the doubt," Sixers coach Brett Brown said. "Were going to see this thing through." Thaddeus Young added 18 points and James Anderson had 16 for the Sixers, whose last victory came Jan. 29 at Boston. The Jazz built an 84-73 lead following a 7-0 run early inn the fourth quarter. Burks responded with a 3-pointer to put Utah back ahead 16 seconds later. "It just happened," Burks said of his 3-pointer. "It was a wide-open shot that happened to go in." Wroten misfired on a layup on Philadelphias next possession -- just his second miss -- and Hayward put the game away with a pair of free throws and a three-point play in the final minute. Wroten hit all six of his shots in the first half and wound up 12 for 15. "Its tough losing," Wroten said. "I feel like we had that one. Some calls didnt go our way. It was the little things that hurt us. You never want to leave it in the refs hands. I still feel like we definitely had that one." NOTES: Favours recorded his 18th double-double. . The Rangers centre left early in Game 1 with an upper body injury after being checked by Canadiens defenceman Mike Weaver and has not played since. Brassard told reporters after practice that he was good to go. That brought a smile to the face of Rangers coach Alain Vigneault. OKLAHOMA CITY -- Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder put on one of their best shooting displays of the season Thursday night -- and their fans seem to be following the teams cue. Durant scored 28 points and the Thunder made 51.9 per cent in beating the Los Angeles Clippers 105-91. But that pales in comparison to what Oklahoma City fans are shooting this week during a second-quarter promotion at Chesapeake Energy Arena. For the second straight game, and the fifth time during the 2013 calendar year, a Thunder fan hit a half-court heave to win $20,000 in a contest sponsored by MidFirst Bank. Brad Brucker, a 33-year-old business teacher at Piedmont High School, made the money shot two days after another fan, Cameron Rodriguez, hit from midcourt in a win over Denver. As Brucker left the floor, he was greeted and congratulated by recording stars Beyonce and Jay-Z, who watched from courtside seats next to Durants family. Brucker said the experience "didnt feel real." Durant joked after the game that "we might go broke after these guys, theyre hitting every half-court shot." But he added it was fun watching fans hit those shots. Durant also enjoyed watching the Thunder post their second-best shooting outing of the season and lead all the way against Los Angeles in a matchup of Western Conference powers. Oklahoma City has won its first five home games of the season for the first time since 2004-05, when the franchise was in Seattle. Durant also had eight assists. Serge Ibaka added 17 points and three blocked shots. "I thought that was probably as well as we can execute a game plan and execute on both ends of the floor, on offence and defence in the second half," Oklahoma City coach Scott Brooks said. "Seventeen assists and five turnovers in the second half, and we made them miss a lot of shots. I thought we played good throughout the game, but really did a great job in the second half." The Clippers beat the Thunder 111-103 in Los Angeles on Nov. 8. But they missed their first seven shots in the rematch, fell into a quick 10-point hole and never dug themselves out of it. Los Angeles coach Doc Rivers noticed early that something was amiss. "In the first quarter, you could see we didnt have it offensively," Rivers said. "Everybody was kind of missing shots. We didnt have any rhythm, no speed. When we dont have any pace by anybody, you know thats not a good sign. We didnt tonight." There were a couple of bright spots for the Clippers. In his return to his hometown, Blake Griffin scored 27 points on 12-for-23 shooting and also had 10 rebounds. Hes had a 20-10 double in 10 of the last 12 games, and has posted an NBA-high 100 such games since the start of the 2010-11 season. The Clippers Chris Paul also extended his NBA-record streak while finishingg with 17 points and 12 assists. J.J. Hardy Jersey. He has opened the season with 13 straight games in which hes had at least 10 points and 10 assists. Magic Johnson held the previous record of 11 such games to open the 1990-91 season. "We just couldnt get it going, honestly," Rivers said. "I thought our offence -- our defence let us down by the end -- but at halftime, I thought it was still more of our offence. The way weve played the last couple of games, with the ball movement and all that - that was all gone tonight." Los Angeles pulled within 81-75 in the opening minute of the fourth quarter, but Nick Collisons three-point play and a jumper by Jeremy Lamb put the Thunder up by 11. Baskets by Los Angeles Ryan Hollins and Jamal Crawford made it a seven-point game, but Oklahoma City scored the next seven points and took its biggest lead of the game to that point at 93-79 on a free throw by Lamb with 7:11 left. Los Angeles didnt cut the margin below double digits the rest of the game. Crawford scored 18 points for the Clippers, who hurt themselves at the free-throw line, finishing 7-of-15. Russell Westbrook scored 12 and Lamb added 11 for the Thunder. Oklahoma City took advantage of the Clippers early shooting woes to take a 13-3 lead just over five minutes into the game. Los Angeles struggled at times against the Thunders interior defence, as Ibaka and rookie Steven Adams each blocked a pair of shots in the first-half. Oklahomas City led by 13 before taking a 51-43 edge at halftime. Griffin, limited to six points in the first half, scored seven straight baskets for the Clippers during the third quarter and his 20-foot jumper pulled Los Angeles within 68-62. The Thunder rebuilt its lead with a basket from Kendrick Perkins, a three-point play from Durant and a 17-foot jumper by Ibaka. NOTES: Clippers F Matt Barnes missed his second straight game with a left eye injury sustained when he caught an inadvertent elbow from Memphis Zach Randolph on Sunday. Barnes and Ibaka were ejected after a second-quarter altercation when the Clippers and Thunder played on Nov. 13. ... Rivers had high praise for the Thunders Adams, whom Oklahoma City drafted in the first round this past summer. "Hes going to be good," Rivers said of the 7-footer from New Zealand. Rivers watched in a pre-draft workout when Rivers still was coaching the Boston Celtics. "He has great hands and can shoot the ball pretty well. Hes big. He has size and what is he, 20?" . Paul played his first two NBA seasons in Oklahoma City with the team then known as the New Orleans Hornets and says he always enjoys coming back. "Always," he said. "I won rookie of the year here. My first two years this was my first experience in the NBA. Ill always have a love for OKC." PHOENIX -- Some Suns fans made the mistake of disrespecting Jerryd Bayless Phoenix roots. Dustin Hopkins Jersey . He made regret their words. The Memphis guard came off the bench to score 13 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter, leading the Grizzlies to a 99-91 win over Phoenix on Thursday night. The Grizzlies overcame 33 points from Suns guard Goran Dragic to improve to 14-17. Bayless was born and raised in Phoenix, played high school ball just north of the US Airways Center and played in college at Arizona. He helped the Grizzlies recover from the Suns 18-0 third-quarter run, giving Memphis a 94-84 lead on a 3-pointer with 4:30 to play. "Well, some guys on the sidelines said that I disgraced St. Marys (high school)," Bayless said. "That kind of hurt my feelings and that got me going a little bit." Zach Randolph had 20 points and 15 rebounds in helping the Grizzlies cool the Suns for a night, the second win for the visitors in two meetings between the teams this season. Ed Davis added 16 points and 11 rebounds. Dragic scored 15 of his points during the Suns big third quarter. Dragic added seven assists and finished with a career high in points on the night the Suns gave away thousands of bobbleheads bearing his likeness. The Suns (19-12) couldnt fight off the Grizzlies, who scored seven straight points to regain the lead after trailing by four to start the final quarter. Bayless fueled the run with a 3-pointer and jumper to give the Grizzlies an 80-75 lead with 9:31 left to play. "It was their bench that killed us again," Suns coach Jeff Hornacek said. "These guys, if they dont think that Ed Davis and Bayless are good players, theyre crazy." Dragic drilled a 3-pointer after a layup by Davis and hit another after a layup by James Johnson to pull Phoenix within 84-81, but the Suns never got the lead back. "Memphis is not a good matchup for us," Dragic said. "They have a lot of big guys under the rim and they attack the paint." The Suns led 26-22 after one quarter, but struggled with their shooting in the second, when they made just 6 of 23 from the floor. Memphis took a five-point lead on a driving layup from Mike Conley with 7:26 to play in the quarter. Then Conley flipped a no-look pass behind his back to Davis for the assist on a basket and a 38-31 lead. The Suns cut the lead to 46-41 on a dunk from Markieff Morris with 2:20 left in the half, but the Grizzlies scored the next seven points and took a 53-41 lead into the break. Randolph, who didnt play in the first meeting between the teams this season in Tennessee, led Memphis with 14 first-half points and grabbed eight rebounds. The Suns missed nine of 11 3-point attempts in the first half. The Suns 41 first half points was one away from their season low of 40 last week at Golden State. It didnt take long, however, for Phoenix to get back into the game. The Suns scored 16 unanswered points over a three-minute span in the third quarter, including Dragics step-back jumper that gave them a 58-57 lead. The Suns scoring streak reached 18 straight points on P.J. Tuckers layup with 6:12 left in the quarter that gave them a 62-57 lead. Memphis finally broke the run with Conleys two free throws at the 5:43 mark. "We weathered the storm," Randolph said. "When J.B. (Bayless) hits shots like that it opens up for us. We can play in the paint." The Grizzlies outrebounded the Suns 59-40 and were more physical throughout the game. Channing Frye scored eight of his 14 points in the game in the third quarter. NOTES: Suns guard Eric Bledsoe was a late scratch from the starting lineup due to a right knee sprain, and didnt play. Gerald Green started at the two-guard in Bledsoes place. Hornacek said Bledsoe, who was injured during the Suns game against the Clippers on Monday, is questionable for the Suns game Sunday against Milwaukee. . Hornacek was named the NBAs Western Conference Coach of the Month for December. He led Phoenix to a 10-3 record during the month. Hornacek is the third person in NBA history to win both Coach of the Month and Player of the Month, and the first to do so with the same franchise. Josh Norman Jersey . The 2010 batting champ showed what he can do when hes mostly healthy. Gonzalez homered, doubled and singled in his return to the lineup, and the Colorado Rockies snapped a five-game losing streak with a 13-4 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday night. The Canadian Football Leagues ninth team, the Ottawa Redblacks, still have a long way to go. The 2014 season does have a grace period around it as far as the football season goes and if the Redblacks finish 2-16, which is a distinct possibility, then so be it. From my perception I am just enjoying the fact they are back in the league and as a whole the league is one step closer to a magical 10th team. I anticipated they would have their difficulties and though going into the 18th week of play I was hoping for more than two wins I am not overly disappointed but mildly concerned. The Redblacks organization has a good fan base. They are young, loud and from what I can see from my television screen enjoying TD Place and all that goes with it. But next year if they do not start winning and competing there wont be as many in the seats. And the year after that if things dont change there will be a few less again. And the pattern could be established. It is a challenge in CFL football that the bottom two or even three teams do have attendance issues and the top two or three dont have that problem. I find this issue similar in almost all sports but in the NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB your television revenues and number of teams hide the issue. The NFL has a problem drawing in-stadium fans win or lose and other teams do that do not have success. It is not an unusual problem but in our league it can mean profit or debt. I am very confident in all the people running the Redblacks but next year has to be different and truth is the last three games this year can set up next year. Nothing is more important than finding and keeping good players. In Hamilton it was a good move picking up Nick Grigsby as a running back. Not sure what happened in Winnipeg but who cares. For the Ticats he is a hired gun to replace the ability of injured Mossis Madu and CJ Gable. Come in, learn the offence and have a good attitude. Without a running back I dont give the Ticats much of a chance but with a running back or just the threat of a running game the Ticats are as good as any in the East and can finish first or third. To run an effective offence six things have to be equal in effectiveness. Interior runs and perimeter runs. Deceptive and trick plays, draws screens, and reverse plays. Short, intermediate and long pass plays and a short yardage package of plays. When you start listing these, all of a sudden in your playbook you have over 200 plays to cover all the areas but, and this is critical, without a good running back you can eliminate half of what you want to do. Good job of Hamilton picking up Grigsby. Junior Galette Jersey. He may have attitude questions but he is a great athlete and an educated running back. With Montreal, surprise, surprise they are looking good. Jonathan Crompton has a unique skill set but it works and this was a typical game for him, 19-of-28, 219 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions. Nothing spectacular at all but when the game ends, Montreal wins. Defensively only 12 yards allowed in the third quarter for the Argonauts and they could not get past their own 40-yard line. Tom Higgins as a head coach has earned some credit. His re-organization of the offence has worked and what was dysfunctional is now rather efficient. Jeff Garcia makes a difference and Higgins stayed the course. With Ottawa, Toronto and Hamilton 1-2-3 in the division, Montreal controls it all and I would have never thought that 10 weeks ago. What I do think now is that Calgary is the best in the league and Jon Cornish is a very good running back. Those are obvious statements I know but as a team with exceptional depth Calgary is exceptional. And with Dave Dickenson calling plays Cornish receives his opportunities to excel. Dickenson never forgets his best player and it seems like every two, three or at the most four plays it is Cornish who gets the ball. Its smart, disciplined play calling from a smart disciplined former player in Dave Dickenson. Winnipeg is experiencing the same issue, a defence that cant play effective run defence as Cornish ran for 160 yards on only 21 carries. In Sunday afternoons Edmonton-Saskatchewan game Kerry Joseph started at quarterback and I was surprised. It had been October 2012 since he had been a starter and overall he did not look out of place. He was not great statistically but provided a calming effect and some good moments. Take away the Kendial Lawrence kick return for a touchdown and the Riders could have won that one. Would I stick with Joseph for the Calgary game next week and Edmonton the final week? Yes I would. Overall 17-of-36 for 213 yards is not spectacular but I think given more reps and time Joseph will improve. I cant say that with the other two quarterbacks on the Riders roster right now. Watch out for B.C. They have gone three straight games without a touchdown allowed on defence. They are playing Winnipeg and Edmonton on the road, but Week 20 at home to Calgary may be a meaningless game for the Stampeders. And finally, watch out for Montreal. They look confident and holding Ray to 200 yards passing says a lot. Three weeks to go, and six playoff opportunities around the league. "But its one thing to feel it and its another thing to go out and show it," said the now 23-year-old prospective Leafs centre. "And I realize that." Colborne has had a few cups of coffee with the big club in Toronto over the course of two-plus seasons in the organization – 16 career regular season games – but has yet to stick the landing for good. Inked to a one-year, one-way contract this past summer, he is staring hard at perhaps his final shot with the Leafs. With opportunity there for the taking, he knows no better time than the present to pronounce himself ready. "The only way you can do that is to come out and actually do it so thats what Im happy to do, come out and prove to people that Im an NHL player," Colborne said, acquired from Boston in the Tomas Kaberle trade of February 2011. "Doesnt mean anything if I think it, it has to be the coaching staff and the management." With a first round pedigree (2008), Colborne has long had the raw potential to make an impact in the NHL, what with the lofty stature (listed at 6-foot-5) and offensive handiness to make any scout scribble furiously in a notebook. Thicker these days at 220 pounds and now boasting an improved arsenal which includes increased speed – following continued work with Leafs skating consultant Barb Underhill – and an obvious infusion of confidence, its clear that Colborne is in position to put it all together. "He looks like hes grown into his body a little bit more," observed Leafs coach Randy Carlyle. "Hes a bigger man, thicker man. He seems more confident out there; hes handling the puck with more confidence. Hes a young player trying to cut his teeth." After tiptoeing into the Leafs lineup for Games 6 and 7 against the Bruins late last spring, Colborne returned home to Calgary this past summer where he could thankfully shoot pucks in the old barn with a clean bill of health. Memories of the previous summer still seem to sting. After he and the Marlies were thwarted by Norfolk in the Calder Cup Final in June, Colborne underwent wrist surgery that would force him to the sidelines for nearly all of the offseason. "In a word, it was frustrating," he recalled of the summer of 2012. "I felt like I was just spinning my wheels the whole time just sitting there. I couldnt do a lot of things. I couldnt be out shooting pucks in the old barn that we have out back that Ive done since I was little. I couldnt get on the ice until a week before camp [started]. "I rode the crap out of the bike and that was about all I could do." Forced to near-dormancy for most of the warmer months, Colborne arrived at Marlies training camp that fall with a swagger set at low, the effects of the wrist injury still lingering following an offseason seemingly wasted. Yordano Ventura Royals Jersey. "My one arm was so much skinnier than the other," he recalled. In spite of the surgery, the wrist still gave him trouble. He had difficulty shooting the puck, the result a lost first half of one goal in 25 games. Then one night a scary hit rocked Colborne, one that "actually scared me pretty bad". There was a "big pop" and from it the lengthy Boston draft pick believed hed reinjured the wrist. He returned to the bench in anger, slamming his stick to mark the frustration. "I kind of freaked out," he remembered with a grin. But after about a minutes worth of time the sting was gone and Colborne realized that he could move the once tender zone of his wrist better than he had since the injury first occurred. The results followed. Over the final 37 games, Colborne would tally 12 goals and 32 points before joining the Leafs towards the end of the year. "It was a tough situation," he reflected of the two-faced 2013 season, "but definitely something you learn from and I made sure I made up for it this summer." This fall represents perhaps the best chance for Colborne to finally realize his NHL potential with opportunity there for the taking in the bottom half of the Leafs forward ranks. Failure to land a spot might spell the end for him in Toronto. Colborne now requires waivers to return to the AHL and considering his age and talent package, its likely he would be lost to another club if they tried to pass him through to the Marlies. "I just want to go out and show that I can work well in both ends," Colborne said, stressing the importance of proving his worth in the defensive zone under Carlyle. "Its finding the right balance that the coaching staff wants me to have and pretty much playing whatever role they tell me to do and Ill go out there and do it to the best of my ability. Just show that I can play in a defensive role if they want me and in an offensive role [too]." "Anytime you have that kind of intangibles as far as size and skill and speed the skys the limit," Carlyle noted. "Itll be up to him to continue to show growth and take the next step and itll be us to provide him with the strong environment that he can do that." Now is the time for Joe Colborne and he knows it. "This year, knowing that I put in the work this summer I know I can come and I can handle the bag skates and I can handle all those other things," he said. "Its just now about going out there and making sure I go play the way I know I can." CHICAGO -- After getting roughed up last month in a start at Houston, John Danks decided to break down his delivery and make a number of mechanical changes. Lance Kendricks Jersey . The result has been a remarkable turnaround, which Danks continued with seven solid innings Wednesday night as the Chicago White Sox beat the Detroit Tigers 8-2. "Ive probably thrown more bullpens probably in the last month than I have in the last couple years," Danks said. "Its been good." Jose Abreu hit an early homer off Detroit starter Justin Verlander, then singled to start a seven-run burst in the sixth inning that gave Danks all the support he needed as the White Sox won for the second straight time against the AL Central-leaders. Abreu went 3 for 4 with a walk and scored twice. The Cuban rookie has 19 home runs and 50 RBIs this season. Abreu has been the catalyst behind the surprising White Sox (33-33) staying within striking distance, but the star in this game was the crafty left-hander and his 80 mph (or slower) changeup. Danks (5-5) allowed two runs and six hits in seven innings. He has permitted just five runs in 29 1-3 innings over his past four starts since allowing eight runs (seven earned) in 4 2-3 innings at Houston last month. "I think Johnny has really picked it up," manager Robin Ventura said. "He went through a period where he wasnt commanding his fastball and changeup. He made some adjustments and hes really been different since then, not only with control but it seems like his velocity has some zip to it and his changeup looks better." Verlander (6-6) gave up seven runs and eight hits in 5 2-3 innings as the Tigers lost their third in a row. "His stuff again was good. He just couldnt muscle through a couple innings there," Detroit manager Brad Ausmus said. "I dont really know how to explain it. His stuff was good again." The seven runs in an inning matched a season high for Chicago. The White Sox also scored seven on May 9 against Arizona. Abreu connected on Verlanders first pitch of the second inning for a solo homer over the left-centre field wall. Detroit tied it in the fourth when Miguel Cabrera doubled and scored on a groundout by Torii Hunter. Singles by Abreu, Adam Dunn and Alexei Ramirez loaded the bases with no outs in the sixth. Dayan Viciedo grounded into a double play and Abreu scored for a 2-1 lead. It appeared as if Verlander might escape with just one run scoring, but Alejandro De Aza followed with a bloop single for a run, and Adrian Nieto and Adam Eaton drew walks to load the bases. That brought up Gordon Beckham, and Detroit manager Brad Ausmus kept Verlander in the game despite the right-hander having thrown 121 pitches to that point. The next pitch was a 96 mph fastball that Beckham lined for a two-run single. "We led off with three singles, guys getting on base against Verlander," Beckham said. "Youve got to have guys out there because not a lot of guys hit homers, unless your names Jose." Reliever Ian Krol faced three batters and retired no one. He gave up a two-run double to Conor Gillaspie and -- following an intentional walk to Abreu -- an RBI single to Dunn. "I need to limit the walks. That one huge inning, I walked a few guys and gave up a couple weak hits and turned it in to a big inning myself when it shouldnt have been," Verlander said. With the way Danks was pitching, the cushion was more than enough. "Im just trying to take it out to the field with me, and so far, so good," he said. "But Im not going to rest on my laurels and Im going to get ready for my next start. Ive been humbled in this game before, so Im going to try and keep from doing that before." NOTES: Cabrera (left hamstring) said he was feeling better Wednesday, but Ausmus decided to keep the slugger at DH. "Give him another day," Ausmus said. "We dont want this lingering." ... The White Sox have signed nine of their first 10 draft picks so far, with the lone holdout being LHP Carlos Rodon, the No. 3 pick overall. ... The Tigers decided to skip LHP Drew Smyly and keep the matchup between Max Scherzer (7-2) and Chris Sale (5-0) for the series finale Thursday. Mars announced Saturday that the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers will join him as part of his halftime show. Super Bowl halftime performers often have collaborators.FLORHAM PARK, N.J. - The New York Jets have a good chance of being No. 1 — in the NFL draft. At 2-11, theyre in the mix with Tennessee, Oakland, Tampa Bay and Jacksonville for the dubious distinction of having the NFLs worst record. So, with three games left, the race is on. Next Sunday could play a big part in deciding things with the Jets playing the Titans in Tennessee. And for some fans, they might prefer the Jets continue to lose to secure the best draft spot.I know where our fans are coming from, coach Rex Ryan said Monday. Absolutely, I get that. That doesnt mean that were going to approach this game any different — because were going to try to win the game.So fans hoping to see perhaps Oregons Marcus Mariota or Florida States Jameis Winston in green and white next season might have to temper those wishes for the time being. If there was a Peyton Manning out there or whoever out there, a Walter Payton, then Id say you throw it, Ryan joked. No, Im just kidding. Were not (tanking). Were trying to win the game.According to the sports analytics site www.numberFire.com, the Jets have an 11.82 per cent of securing the top pick, ranking them fifth behind the Titans (17.02), Buccaneers (17.58), Raiders (18.72) and Jaguars (33.84).Using our internal efficiency metrics, we calculate each teams chances of winning every remaining game on its schedule, said Zach Kempner, the sites communications director. Then we simulate the NFL season thousands of times to determine the probability that each team will have the worst record in the NFL.The projections also include the usual tiebreakers such as strength of schedule, strength of victory and conference winning percentage. After the game against Tennessee, the Jets finish with New England (10-3) and Miami (7-6).Since the modern draft era began in 1970, the Jets have picked among the top five just 10 times. They have had the No. 1 overall pick only once: in 1996, when they took wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson. New York has had the second selection twice (Johnny Lam Jones, 1980; and Blair Thomas, 1990) and the No. 3 pick once: Freeman McNeil (1981).The Jets have had five No. 4 overall picks, including Marvin Powell (1977), Chris Ward (1978), Marvin Jones (1993), Dewayne Robertson (2003) and DBrickashaw Ferguson (2006). They traded up in the 2009 draft to take Mark Sanchez with the No. 5 selection. The big question, though, is who wiill be doing the picking when the next draft begins in April with the futures of Ryan and general manager John Idzik uncertain beyond Week 17. Reggie White Jersey. Owner Woody Johnson has some big decisions to make with the Jets missing out on the post-season for the fourth straight season — the longest drought since he took over the team in 2000. Many fans and media already assume Ryan will be gone after the regular-season finale at Miami on Dec. 28.Ryan took full blame for New Yorks 30-24 overtime loss at Minnesota on Sunday, and praised Johnson for his commitment to putting together a winning team. In some ways, it sounded like a concession speech from a coach who knows hes on his way out after six seasons.Im not conceding anything, Ryan said Monday. Im not going anywhere. I know Ive got three weeks and here we come. That hadnt been told to me — at least I know I think I have three weeks here, and here we go.Idzik is in his second season as GM, but has been widely criticized for his personnel decisions since he has been with the Jets, whether it has been failed free-agent signings, subpar draft selections or not being aggressive enough in free agency to provide adequate quality roster depth.Fans have started billboard and website campaigns urging Johnson to fire Idzik, despite a short stint on the job. Some have also aimed their blame at Johnson, something Ryan wholeheartedly disagrees with.I just really wanted the fans to know that, hey guys, this is your owner, Ryan said. You should be happy that this is your owner. You can do a heck of a lot worse than having Woody Johnson as your owner, I promise you. Youve got a guy thats 100 per cent committed in this organization. He wants to win.NOTES: WR Percy Harvin has a low ankle sprain and is in a boot, putting his availability vs. the Titans in doubt. X-rays were negative. It probably doesnt look that great, Ryan said, but well see as it progresses. ... S Antonio Allen has a broken hand, but isnt expected to be sidelined. ... Ryan is encouraged about the chances of DE Muhammad Wilkerson (turf toe) and TE Jace Amaro (concussion) for Sundays game. The coach said the arrow seems to be pointing up on Amaro, who is going through the NFLs protocol for head injuries. Wilkerson is being fitted for a special shoe that could allow him to practice this week.___AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFL Cheap NFL Jerseys Wholesale Jerseys Wholesale NFL Jerseys Jerseys From China Wholesale NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys ' ' '

The 29th-ranked Pospisil lacks clay-court experience and paid the price against his 45th-ranked opponent who grew up playing on the surface. "Theres a lot you can learn from every loss," said Pospisil. "This one was more about my lack of clay experience, I need to get used to the surface. Working on my movement will help a lot, its something I can improve." Eighth seed Milos Raonic of Thornhill, Ont., had a bye in the first round and will face either Argentinas Federico Delbonis or Taiwans Lu Yen-Hsun in the second round on Wednesday. Pospisil was competing in only his seventh top-level match on clay and now stands 1-6 on the surface. His only victory came in a Davis Cup tie against Ecuador in 2011. Pospisil hasnt played much since the Australian Open due to a back injury. "Considering how little Ive played in general, this was not so bad," said Pospisil. "He played extremely well and didnt miss any balls. I played well on my forehand but obviously clay is not my natural surface. "There was really not much I could have done out there." Pospisil, who committed 18 unforced errors in the opening set, admitted he came to the court with low expectations. "I didnt have too many expectations, Ive been dealing with a couple of injuries and only played points on clay for the first time yesterday." The Canadian said that while he did not want to go into detail, his back felt fine during the match. Pospisil will move onto Bucharest and Munich over the next few weeks as the French Open buildup continues. Elsewhere, Fabio Fogninii of Italy was two points away from defeat before rallying to beat Joao Sousa 5-7, 7-5, 6-4. Gary Sanchez Jersey. Sousa led 5-2 and 30-0 on Fogninis serve, but the Portuguese player lost his composure and then started complaining to the chair umpire at the end of the second set and midway through the third. "Im not happy today. I was I think a bit lucky," Fognini said. "It was a really difficult match." The 10th-seeded Fognini, who lost to title-holder Novak Djokovic in last years semifinals, was the highest seeded player in action Monday in the clay-court tournament. Fognini failed to serve out the first set at 5-4 and then his game fell apart. "I was completely without energy, without power in my legs," he said. "I have no idea what happened." After Fognini had served out the second set, the crowd jeered Sousa -- who had received a warning during the first set. At 3-2 down in the third, Sousa continued to grumble, saying "its a joke, its a joke." Fognini will play Bautista Agut in the next round. Later in the day, 11th-seeded Tommy Robredo of Spain beat Belgian qualifier David Goffin 6-4, 6-1. In other first-round matches, there were victories for Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany, Czech players Radek Stepanek and Lukas Rosol; and Spaniards Albert Montanes, Albert Ramos and Pablo Andujar. Rosol beat Evgeny Donskoy 7-5, 6-1; Kohlschreiber won 6-3, 6-4 against Simone Bolelli; Stepanek thrashed Ivo Karlovic 6-1, 6-2; Ramos beat Jarkko Nieminen 6-2, 7-5 and Andujar downed Edouard Roger-Vasselin 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 (5). On Tuesday, Djokovic plays Montanes in the second round. TORONTO -- Cory Rasmus needed time to appreciate the significance of his first appearance at Rogers Centre. Brandon Williams Jersey . A rookie reliever with the Atlanta Braves last May, Rasmus left the mound angry after giving up a home run to Edwin Encarnacion and a double to his older brother, Blue Jays centre fielder Colby Rasmus, in an eventual 9-3 interleague loss for Atlanta. Now with the Los Angeles Angels, Cory is back in Toronto for a four-game set against Colbys Blue Jays. And one year later, the younger Rasmus (by 15 months) feels a lot different about his last outing at Rogers Centre. "To be honest with you, I didnt really get to enjoy the moment like I wish I would have, but to have an opportunity to come up here and maybe face him again is awesome," Cory Rasmus said hours before first pitch Friday. "Hopefully I can embrace it a little more and I wont be so uptight about everything, because looking back on it, it was awesome. Brothers dont get to face each other too often in the big leagues." Rasmus made his major league debut a week before the Toronto outing last year, and was traded to the Angels the following month. He finished the 2013 season with a 5.40 ERA through 21 2/3 innings. Since being called up by the Angels a week ago, the 26-year-old, whos endured three shoulder surgeries over the last seven years, has pitched two scoreless innings, giving up two hits and striking out one. With Colby Rasmus on a hot streak as well -- batting .391 with a .417 on-base percentage and .913 slugging percentage over the last seven days -- both brothers say theyre looking forward a possible rematch of last years at-bat. The two had breakfast together Friday morning, and younger brother Cyle, whos just finished his college career at Columbus State University, will be in the Rogers Centre stands taking in the action this weekend. Colby Rasmus says the playing field between him and Cory is a bit more even these days. "I didnt really like (facing him) a whole lot last year." he said. "Ive had the good fortune of hanging around the big leagues a bit longer and he was having struggles with his shoulder. Hed just been in the minor leagues, it wasnt really a fun time." Cory and Colby were always teammates throughout their childhood, playing together in the Little League World Series in 1999, and winning a State Championship with Russell County High School in Seale, Ala., in 2005. With that kind of history, Colby Rasmus admits its strange having Cory on the other side of the diamond. But hes glad to see his younger brother getting his shot in the big leagues. "Id love nothing more than to have him do well," he said. "Through everything weve been through, all the work we put in when we were younger ... for us to both be on the same big league field and have a chance to do this, its very special." Michael Oliver (3.53), Anthony Taylor (3.48) and Martin Atkinson (3.44) were not far behind. In terms of red cards, Mike Dean averaged the highest, although he did also oversee more games than anyone else (33).The key thing is he has the big games, said former referee Dermot Gallagher on Sky Sports News HQ. When youre doing 33 games youre doing the high-profile games, which have more pressure, the players react differently because of the stakes. Lee Mason issued 56 yellow cards in 22 games Atkinson and East both only sent one player off over the course of the season.Gallagher thinks the decrease in cards overall is a positive.Definitely its good news, he said. It shows that the referees are communicating with the players a lot more.I think the advent of the captains coming in before the game has helped, as the referees can get on their wavelength straight away and use them throughout the game to stop yellow cards escalating. On Saturday, the rookie showed he can deliver with his offence, too. Arenado hit a game-ending single with two outs in the ninth inning to lift the Colorado Rockies to a 2-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants, losers of six straight for the first time in three years. Michael Cuddyer singled in the first inning to extend his hitting streak to 26 straight games. Arenado was expected to be with the Rockies in 2012 but was kept in Double-A. He finally got the call-up April 28 and has been entrenched at third base, where his defence has drawn praise from teammates and opponents. "I was telling all these guys in spring training, Hey, watch this guy Nolan in spring training, he can pick it," injured shortstop Troy Tulowitzki said. "You get a glimpse of it in spring training but it doesnt really click until you see him in game time." On Saturday, the Rockies needed him to contribute with his bat, and he didnt disappoint. Todd Helton was walked by reliever Jeremy Affeldt (1-4) with two outs in the ninth for Colorados first baserunner since the second inning. "Two-out walks will kill you," Affeldt said. Josh Rutledge ran for Helton, stole second and scored when Arenado singled up the middle on a 2-2 pitch to help the Rockies return to .500 at 41-41. "That was big on Rut, he basically won the game. If it werent for that it was just runners on first and second," Arenado said. "(Affeldt) hung a splitty and I was fortunate I put a good swing on it." The hit made a winner of Rafael Betancourt (2-3) in his first appearance since May 31. Andres Torres had three hits and Buster Posey had two hits and an RBI for the defending World Series champion Giants, who last lost six in a row from June 26 to July 2, 2010, a seven-game skid. "Its not a good stretch," manager Bruce Bochy said. "Ill leave it at that." Cuddyers streak is the longest in Rockies history and in the majors this season. He has reached base safely in a franchise-record 45 straight games. He took the drama out of it early with an RBI single up the middle in the first that gave the Rockies a 1-0 lead. "I had a chance to get out of that in the first inning and didnt make a good pitch to Cuddyer," starter Matt Cain said. "Being as hot as he is, you make a mistake to him, hes going to get a hit. I could kick myself for that (0-2 curveball)." Hopefully hell get that thing behind him at some point." De La Rosa said the thumb began to hurt when he was throwing in the bullpen before the game. He said he plans on making his next start. "For sure. Yes, I will," he said. The Rockies had missed a chance to extend their 1-0 lead in a mistake-filled bottom of the second. With Yorvit Torrealba on first, De La Rosa laid down a bunt. Third baseman Pablo Sandovals throw to second went into centre field and Torrealba advanced to third. Center fielder Juan Perezs throw to third got by Sandoval but Torrealba didnt score even though there was no Giants player covering home. The oversight cost the Rockies when Torrealba was caught in a rundown on Corey Dickersons groundout and DJ LeMahieu hit a fly to right to end the inning. It was the last chance Colorado had against Cain, who turned in his best performance of the season despite getting a no decision. He set down the last 20 batters he faced and showed his first two starts against Colorado this season were an aberration. In those games he allowed a combined eight runs and 12 hits in 11 1-3 innings. This time, he allowed just one run on three hits and struck out five in eight innings. "I started making pitches and started to get ahead of guys," Cain said. "I wasnt getting ahead of guys early." NOTES: Rockies OF Dexter Fowler missed his fourth straight game with a sore right hand. COLUMBUS, Ohio -- NHL All-Star weekend is coming to Columbus, two years later than planned. Terry Rozier Jersey . Commissioner Gary Bettman made it official on Saturday when he and Blue Jackets director of hockey operations John Davidson announced that the festivities will take place at Nationwide Arena on Jan. 24-25, 2015. Columbus was originally awarded the 2013 All-Star weekend but that event was cancelled due to the lockout. "The Commissioner made a promise, and that promise has been kept," Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman said. "As a politician, thats always something good to hear." Bettman said there was never any serious consideration of taking the next available All-Star game anywhere but Ohios capital city. "The only issues we had to deal with were logistical," Bettman said. "We had to make sure that the convention centre and hotel space were available. We wanted to come back as quickly as possible, but we had to make sure we were able to do it." The announcement was met with a loud ovation from a capacity crowd when it made midway through the first period of Columbus game against Pittsburgh on Saturday night. There wont be an All-Star game this season because of the Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Columbus will become the third straight first-time host of the NHLs big weekend, following Raleigh, N.C., in 2011, and Ottawa in 2012. Davidson said he was particularly pleased for the McConnell family, which brought the NHL to Columbus and still own the Blue Jackets. "This is going to be a fun time," Davidson said. CARSON, Calif. Jonathan Isaac Jersey . -- Landon Donovan broke the Major League Soccer goal record Sunday night, scoring his 135th and 136th regular-season goals in the Los Angeles Galaxys 4-1 victory over the Philadelphia Union. Playing for the first time since being cut from the U.S. World Cup team, Donovan broke a tie with Jeff Cunningham in the 49th minute with his first goal of the season, then added another in the 81st. Donovan also holds the MLS playoff record with 22 goals. Donovan scored his first goal on a counterattack, passing to Robbie Keane, who took the ball into the Union box and fed Donovan at the left post for an easy finish. After making it 4-0 in the 81st, Donovan was replaced by Brazilian forward Samuel a minute later, departing to a standing ovation from the crowd of 21,010. "Its been a long week," Donovan said. "Its hard not to make it about me, and I dont necessarily want it to be that way. But Ive sacrificed a lot to be in the position Im in and I was very happy for myself because Ive dedicated a lot to this. I think I deserved what happened today." Donovan, also the U.S. national team goals leader with 57 in 156 games, has played 311 regular-season games in 15 MLS seasons. The Jamaican-born Cunningham, a former U.S. national team player, played in 365 games over 14 seasons with Columbus, Colorado, Real Salt Lake, Toronto FC and FC Dallas. He last played in MLS in 2011. Donovan said he wasnt looking to make a statement after coach Jurgen Klinsmanns decision not to include him in the group headed to Brazil. "This is my job and this is what I get paid to do, so my teammates depend on me and I think Ive played well this year, but I needed to contribute on the scoreboard, and that felt good," said Donovan, who was making his eighth appearance of the season. "Obviously, a lot of relief in some ways, a lot of joy, but I feel like Im in really good form right now, and I really feel good about how I played, and this is a continuation of how Ive played over the last few months." Donovan is No. 2 on the leagues career assists list with 120, including one on Leonardos second-minute header Sunday. Steve Ralston, a Houston Dynamo assistant coach who retired in 2010, has the record with 135. That was the first goal for Los Angeles, with Donovan delivering a free kick for Leonardo to finish. Keane scored a third in the 64th minute after a turnover by Union defender Sheanon Williams. Los Angeles (4-3-3) won consecutive games for the second time this season. Philadelphia (2-7-5), which welcomed back midfielder Maurice Edu -- also one of seven players trimmed from the 30-man World Cup preliminary roster -- lost its second game in a row and fifth in the last six outings. The Union have won just once in their last dozen games. Edu scored in the 88th minute, converting a penalty kick after Raul Mendiola fouled Zach Pfeffer. Vince Carter Jersey .
